Investigating the Knowledge and Performance of Personnel and Students Anesthetic About the Complications of Oral Ginger in Surgery and Anesthesi

چکیده مقاله:

Background: Ginger from the Zingiberaceae family is abundantly found in the diet of the people of the world and has known properties such as: immune system, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, blood sugar and lipid raiser, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Despite these properties, new research has shown the effects of increased bleeding, anticoagulation. all of which can be attributed to its important role in anesthesia and surgery in cases where the patient has consumed it. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the knowledge and practice of anesthetic staff and students about the complications of ginger in surgery and anesthesia. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study in which the knowledge and practice of 68 staff and students of anesthesia at Allameh Behlul Hospital in Gonabad were evaluated by self-administered questionnaire about oral ginger complications in surgery and anesthesia. Face and content validity were used for questionnair. Cronbach α used for reliability(α=0.078). The spss software version19 used for data analysis. Resulte: The mean age of the study units was 11.6 3 23.42 years with a work experience of 1 to 22 years. 66.7% of research units were female and 70.5% were married and the majority (97.4%) were bachelors. The results of statistical analysis showed that 83.3% of the research units had poor knowledge and 78.2% had a poor performance regarding preoperative examination. The level of knowledge of research units was significantly correlated with education (p-value = 0.033). Also, the performance of individuals was significantly correlated with their work experience (p-value = 0.029). Conclusion: The findings of the present study showed that anesthesia staff were not aware of the effects and complications of ginger on patientschr('39') anesthesia and surgery and did not perform well on patient evaluation of ginger overdose and diet. Therefore, due to the importance of herbal remedies and their effects on the surgical process and treatment of patients, it is necessary to have a workshop and inform the personnel.
